Sensor supported living

Many older generation people live alone at home without round-the-clock care. For such people, falls, electrical appliances left on or sudden occurring health problems present an everyday hazard. According to research, falls and suddenly occurring diseases such as heart attacks or strokes form the greatest health risks to people aged over 65.

For example, if the casualty is unsuccessful in getting up again after a fall or fail to draw attention to themselves and obtain help in good time, this can have serious consequences and lead to a stay in hospital, need for short term or permanent care, or even cause death. This concern forces many old people who live alone to go early care because they do not want to expose themselves to these risks.

An autonomic video and sensor based safety system was developed so that older people can continue to live an independent life in their own familiar environment. This automatically recognises emergencies and initiates appropriate action. The aim of this research project is to provide optimal cover by detecting any possible hazardous situations around the home using an intelligent system.
